Marriage & Ministry

One of the things we have witnessed over the last year is the Satanic scheme & attack on the marriages and families of spiritual leaders. This is one of the most important blogs we have done in a while.

I have spoken to friends around the country who are contending for the marriages and families of spiritual leaders Here is an important discussion this week that will be helpful for you.

What are things you do to keep your marriage healthy?

The spiritual formation of each individual is the key to a healthy marriage. We have learned that two halves do not make a whole when it comes to marriage.

Two halves only make a whole in math. What is each individual doing to build their spiritual life and bring a healthy whole individual into the relationship?

The spiritual disciplines, such as reading, prayer, worship, giving, and the rest of the disciplines build the individual so they can bring a healthy whole to the marriage.

How much or little do you involve children in the work?

This is different for each person and family. Some will want to involve their children and most of the work. Others will choose less involved relationship. It all depends on the child. It’s better for them to be wanting more involvement than to be overcommitted and burned out on the ministry.

The balance of the amount of events, how much time, and sharing the ministry with each child will be different. It will take discernment to make these difficult decisions.

One of the things that I have found is that the more a child can experience the ministry, the office, and the relationships of their ministry parent, the easier it is for them to understand when you have to leave.

How do you fight against burnout from the ministry getting into your marriage?

This really is an easy answer. I know there are many people who fall on all sides of burnout. However, what we really need to talk more about is developing how to burn on. Healthy boundaries of time and relationship keep any vocation balanced. It’s not just people in ministry who burn out on their work.

Ask the businessman or woman, ask a politician, or even an entertainer, and you will see that burn out is real when we do not have balanced plan.
