Easter, Christianity, the Supernatural, and Young People
So many different studies and research have shown that Gen Z and Alpha Gen have a unique interest in the supernatural.
Christel Manning wrote in the Pacific Standard that “Gen Z is the least religious generation. About one third have no religion—about the same proportion as among Millennials—compared with 23 percent of Gen X, 17 percent of Baby Boomers, and 11 percent among the Silent Generation who have no religion.” ( Pew research )
But that does not mean they have no interest in spiritual things. For example, the newest generation, Alpha Gen, are showing an 82% interest in spiritual things. (Springtide)
For example, on TikTok, there are 45 billion views of #witchTOK. And research by BARNA, Springtide, and PEW all have shown that young people are more interested in spiritual things than they are religious things. Don’t worry, I understand that religion is not a bad thing when you look at its purest definition. But the practice of religion has taken an image loss.
What we do know, is that given all of this research, Gen Z and Alpha Gen have a peaking interest in the supernatural.
Look at the popular shows and movies in 2025 with supernatural themes. Titles such as Wicked, The Carnival, Sinners, Wolf Man, and Stranger Things, as well as many others, have taken over the entertainment and screen industry. And don’t forget about the gaming industry and its over-stimulation of the senses with heightened supernatural content.
Given the interest in the supernatural among Gen Z and Alpha Gen, there may not be a better introduction to Christianity for teenagers than Easter.
Here are 4 ways to connect young people with Christianity, Easter, and the supernatural.
1. EASTER IS SUPERNATURAL
It is clear that Gen Z & Alpha Gen are drawn to the supernatural. So, wouldn’t it make sense that we use the supernatural to appeal to young people today?
And what better way to attract the young people today than Easter and the story of the supernatural death and resurrection of Christ.
2. EASTER IS A JUXTAPOSITION
Gen Z & Alpha Gen are moved by contrasting stories of Christianity and especially Ester. Look at the biblical themes and the powerful imagery of these evident themes.
Death and life, darkness and light, evil and good, and lost and found are all central themes of Christianity. These conversations are exactly where young people are at today.
3. EASTER IS A GREAT STORY
Gen Z & Alpha Gen love a story.
Look at the story of Easter. We have villains, heroes, a historic narrative, sudden mystery, and an unpredictable iconic ending.
And the great part about Easter is that it is not simply a story from time. It is a historically proven supernatural moment. We must promote the supernatural story of Easter and allow the Holy Spirit to write the Eater story in the heart and mind of teenagers.
4. EASTER IS HOPE
No one can deny that we are living in difficult times. Just look at the societal issues in American life today: mistrust of government, economic instability, progressive, education, the sexual revolution, and the redefinition of the family.
All of these things add to upheaval for American teenagers.
Yet, no matter how bad things might be, the future is bright for Gen Z & Alpha Gen. Just look at Easter weekend. The death of Christ on a cross to atone for the sins of mankind was a low-light in human history. But the resurrection of Christ from the dead three days later became a highlight of human history.
Finally
You cannot separate Christianity from the supernatural.
And that makes Easter a powerful introduction of Christianity to young people. As youth leaders, and the church in general, we must promote a supernatural Easter to a supernatural generation.
